Tresor by lancome Perfume Review - A romantic treasure in a gorgeous bottle

11:23:00 AM 0 Comments

My sister used this fragrance in her 20's for over five years. On her, the fragrance was truly a treasure. Her skin can truly disguise fragrances such as Paloma Picasso, Dolce Vita, and Tresor in a way that you have to actually ask her what perfume she is wearing. On me, they are all a very sad love story. I have tried all three hoping to smell as delicious as she does when she use them, but I don't get even close to that romantic, almost like heaven, scent.

Based on how she actually smells, and not on how I smell, I have decided to review this fragrance. I love it...on her, and hate it...on me! Years after this hunting fragrance disappointment, I found my two signature fragrances when Hypnotic Poison and Coco Mademoiselle made their first appearance. I still use them as the very first day. Right now, I also try other fragrances like Chanel Chance, Flowerbomb, Guess by Marciano, and Tom Ford Neroli. I found myself also grabbing a bottle of Fan di Fendi EDP Spray.

Tresor perfume, created in 1990 by perfumer Sophia Grojsman for Lancome, has been around for a long time. It is one of the best selling perfumes in the world. The gorgeous bottle was designed by Charles Boussiquet. It is a feminine fragrance, a warm floral-oriental scent, a romantic one indeed with a little modern feel being rose its primary note, mixed with juicy peachy notes, musk, a hint of jasmine, and Vetiver.

With fine and elegant top mixed notes of apricot blossom, pineapple, lilac, peach, lily of the valley, bergamot, and rose; middle notes of iris, jasmine, heliotrope, and again rose and peach; and base notes of amber, sandalwood, musk, vanilla, peach, and apricot Tresor is a comforting fragrance that is hard to dislike. It is not a fragrance that I would fall in love with eternally like I have had with Christian Dior Hypnotic Poison, but it is a nice fragrance for warm days, and a few selected evenings. As I said before, I love it...and hate it! Is that acceptable for such a lovely fragrance? Ask my sister and she would say: No way, its perfect! It is a found treasure.

Dolce Vita by Christian Dior - Sensual and Carefree Fragrance - A Perfume Review

1:45:00 PM 0 Comments

Dolce Vita perfume, a feminine fragrance by Christian Dior, is a classic sweet oriental fragrance with wood and spicy base notes created by perfumers Pierre Bourdon and Maurice Roger in 1994 and launched in 1995. The beautiful bottle was created by Serge Mansau.

This is a happy, optimistic, warm, soft and spicy fragrance. A beautiful, confident, and elegant scent indeed that is close to perfection, most of the time so underrated. Being a very unique fragrance I would keep it in my wardrobe for any special evening.

Top notes are lily, rose, magnolia and muguet; heart notes of apricot, peach, cinnamon; and base notes of sandalwood, vanilla and heliotrope.

Parfums de Coeur Body Fantasies Signature review: Cotton Candy, Vanilla, Fresh White Musk

2:42:00 PM 0 Comments

Recently, we did a giveaway on Instagram for Parfums de Coeur Body Fantasies Body Mist in travel size versions. Three winners were chosen randomly and they were very happy.
I started paying attention to the scents behind these attractive little bottles, and decided to write a review about them.
  1. Body Fantasies Fresh White Musk is a mix of soft musk and fresh white florals. I notice some of our customers buy these by the dozen. It is light, fresh, and clean. A woody scent that is not so powdery. Perfect scent for after showers.
  2. Body Fantasies Cotton Candy is a playful and delicious blend of spun sugar and creamy vanilla combined with notes of tender strawberries and clean musk. Is a Floral Fruity Gourmand fragrance for women.
  3. Body Fantasies Twilight Mist is an oriental (mysterious and mesmerizing) fragrance for women. Top notes are Mandarin, Coconut, and Fresh Plum; middle (Heart) notes are Magnolia, Tuberose, Tiger, Orchid, and Violet; base (Dry) notes are Sandalwood, Creamy Musk, Tonka Bean, and Vanilla. I personally love this fragrance since I am more seduced by oriental scents.
  4. Body Fantasies Pink Sweet Pea Fantasy is a mix of florals and sparkling fruits.
  5. Body Fantasies Vanilla is a floral fruity Gourmand fragrance with mix of creamy vanilla, jasmine, fresh apples, and white musk.
  6. Last, but not least...Body Fantasies Japanese Cherry Blossom is a charming fragrance that inspire romance with its blend of warm oriental notes of fresh cherry blossom petals, rose and amber.
If you ask me, my favorites are those with oriental and gourmand notes like Twilight mist and Japanese Cherry Blossom, but as comforting fragrances I would easily use Fresh White Musk and Vanilla.

Which of these Parfums de Coeur Body Fantasies scents are your favorites?

9:29:00 PM 0 Comments

This June 19th is Father's Day. Have you started shopping yet? For many of us is one of those days we wish we could know exactly what to buy to all the patriarchal figures in our lives. That day it is simply a shopping nightmare for us ladies! Just admit it! You just get exhausted just to think about the perfect gift for you dad. It shouldn't be that way, right?

Well, if you are like me, and you have come to the conclusion that those wonderful men in your life have more than enough power tools, bathrobes, comfy slippers, beer openers, and ties (and more ties) that they can handle from past Father's Day celebrations, it is time to change to something they'll actually use.

I have picked my favorite men's fragrances, and no matter what personality your dad has, there's a scent out there that's perfect for him, a fragrance that actually defines his character. So here are some fragrances ranging from light to luxe:

1. - Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue

2.- CK one Summer

3.- Lacoste Live Cologne for men

4.- Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier

5 Fragrances That Smell Like Orchids

9:55:00 PM 0 Comments

How I love those days when our old back yard was full of orchids!
Nowadays, there's nothing that reminds me of those beautiful and fragrant flowers as a good perfume with orchid notes.

My love for those unique flowers started at a young age while I was playing and running outside an old colonial house in South America. You could easily smell the aromatic exotic flowers of Venezuela's Tropical Gardens from the house courtyard, while hanging in the hammocks.

Years pass by and I still recall those days every single time I smell a fragrance which notes include Orchids. I can not help myself but to get a sample-or two- and take them home.

I have tried so many good perfumes with orchids notes that I have lost count. I have make this post to show you the ones I like the most. Two of the fragrances in the list I always keep in my perfume tray -Flowerbomb and Euphoria- together with Coco Mademoiselle and Hypnotic Poison, of course, which I can not go without.

Unfortunately, I can not go back to Venezuela and when I feel nostalgic I simply get my Flowerbomb perfume and I spritz on a little bit and I am instantly taken back to my youth days.
Having fragrances that remind you of places you have been before, or people you have met it is, somehow, therapeutic. Dwelling in the past, however, it is not. I personally use fragrances to help myself soothe and relax from a hard day at work.

What fragrances do remain you of good and positive times?

Here is my collection of fragrances that smell like Orchids:

1. - Classique by Jean Paul Gaultier - A bold and sweet perfume that awakes your feelings. Notes are rose, fresh anis, orange blossom, ginger, vanilla, amber, orchids

2. - Fantasy by Britney Spears - A sensual, fruity and gourmand scent. Notes are litchi, golden quince, kiwi, jasmine, white chocolate, orchids, orris root, musk and woods.

3. - J'Adore by Christian Dior - A modern and feminine fragrance, fresh, sweet and fruity at the same time, which notes are mandarin, jasmine, orchid, rose, amaranth, musk and blackberry.

4. - Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf  - An explosion of fresh flowers and sweet notes: Bergamot, green tea, Sambac Jasmine, Centifolia rose, freesia, Cattleya orchid, Musk, and patchouli.

5. - Euphoria by Calvin klein - An exotic and mysterious floral-fruity fragrance. Notes in this perfume are rose hip, japanese apple, green leaves, lotus, black orchid, red woods, black violet and amber.

Christian Dior and his perfume house

3:19:00 PM 0 Comments

Born in France in 1905, Christian Dior was a fashion designer who became a synonym for luxurious fashion and couture collections after his creation of the 'New Look', voluminous dresses that emphasized woman's curvy body, in 1947. The collection stood out from the simple fashion styles of the World War II era, giving Dior a huge success in the fashion industry all over the world.
Dior started his own fashion empire business after working for or alongside other renowned fashion and perfumers, such as Robert Piguet, Lucien Lelong, and Pierre Balmain. These legends of the mid-twentieth century gave Dior the foundations to manage a fashion house, and succeed in this field as well. Thanks to Christian Dior, Paris re-established itself as the fashion capital of the world.
Because of his huge success in the fashion industry, Dior decided to enter the perfume industry in 1947 with the creation of Miss Dior, named for Catherine, the designer's sister. The second fragrance created by Christian Dior in 1949 was Diorama, followed by Eau Fraiche in 1953 and Diorissimo in 1956, the most costly exported perfume ever.
Parfums Dior is an old perfume house, and nowadays has 183 perfumes in their perfume line created since 1947. The latest perfume by Dior is J'adore Lumiere EDT, as a new edition of his 1999 J'adore fragrance.
Christian Dior died in 1957, but the houses that bear his name still live on. The Dior brand name is known for its luxurious collections, cosmetics and fragrances. At present, Christian Dior is also the main holding company of LVMH, a conglomerate of multi-national luxury goods.

Dioressence perfume by Christian Dior

2:27:00 PM 0 Comments

Dioressence was launched in 1979 by the House of Dior. The nose behind this oriental chypre fragrance is Guy Robert.

This is one of those fragrances that you either love it or hate it, or simply can love it more than hate it. If this is your case, I recommend you try it in different seasons. It’s a very nice fragrance for winter and spring time, not very well suited for summer. Even though it can not be used all year long, is still a classic womanly type fragrance that calms and astonishes from the beginning to the end.

It’s a very classy and elegant fragrance which sparkling top notes include aldehydes, orange, fruity notes, patchouli, green notes and bergamot; middle notes are carnation, tuberose, cinnamon, violet, orris root, jasmine, ylang-ylang, rose and geranium; base notes are musk, patchouli, benzoin, vanilla, oakmoss, vetiver and styrax.

The fragrance wheel & Perfume Classification

10:25:00 AM 0 Comments

In 1983, an European named Michael Edwards created The Fragrance wheel method. Inspired by a seminar given by Firmenich, Edwards designed his own scheme of fragrance classification with the main purpose of simplifying the fragrance scheme and naming. For several years now, both retailers and perfumers have taken advantage of this creation. For the first time, many people, not so savvy about perfumes, could understand the way perfumes were classified.

This is, we should say, a relatively new classification method and it’s been widely used in the fragrance industry. Since the scheme was easier than earlier versions, it was a lot easier to show the relationships between each individual classification.

Most people have problems in finding a fragrance that will suit them. Lack of advice is another problem that consumers confront when they purchase their perfumes. Fragrance makers and marketers tend to promote the fragrances they personally like, it’s natural. Our sense of smell is extremely emotional, it depends of the day and how we feel that particular day. People should be confident of the perfumes they like, but it’s not the case most of the time. People might have an idea of what they like, but is not that simple. It’s basically a matter of poor knowledge, not a basic understanding of the fragrance classification. How can you explain someone what you like if you don’t even know? The main problem is that is extremely probable that what I like is not what you like. Try to purchase a new fragrance at any perfume store and ask for suggestions. See what happens; you will end up frustrated. Not a very nice experience!

After Michael Edwards created the fragrance wheel and started writing perfume guides, it was much easier for non well-informed people to understand about fragrances. What a nice idea! A completely non technical guide book that could help thousands explains what they like or dislike with words. We could finally find out what type of fragrances we tend to buy, what classification we are inclined to, and know more about our favorite fragrance without the help of a perfume expert. A perfume guide was out there, available to all of us.

How to understand and use The Fragrance Wheel :
The first step is to study the five main fragrance families represented in the wheel: Floral, Oriental, Woody, Fresh and Fougére. This last mentioned family, the Fougére is the only one that does not sub-divide and it is been placed at the hub of the wheel. It is the oldest classification, the more classic family. The aromatic Fougére is an universal fragrance family whose scent includes elements from different families. All other families, arranged around the wheel's circumference, are each divided into three subcategory groups.
The next step is to check the sub-groups in each family. Each of the four outer families have three sub-families that are the result of the combination with the family on either side of each other. Following Michael Edwards wheel we then should have this scheme: Floral, Soft Floral, Floral Oriental, Oriental, Soft Oriental, Woody Oriental, Mossy Woods, Dry Woods, Citrus, Green and Water.
Well, that was easy! Now, what you need to know is the group of your favorite perfume. Try to locate the notes you are attracted to and play blending notes. Overlapping notes will create a pleasant perfume.
For further information visit our Perfume Classification section:
Floral Notes: Fresh cut flowers (floral) / Aldehydes powder Notes (soft floral) / Orange flowers-sweet spices (floral oriental)
Oriental Notes: Incense-amber (soft Oriental) / Oriental resins-musk & vanilla (oriental) / Patchouli-sandalwood (woody oriental)
Woody Notes: Mossy Woods (oakmoss - citrus) / Dry woods (dry woods- citrus) / Woody Oriental (patchouli - sandalwood)
Fresh Notes: Citrus (citrus - oils) / Green (green leaves - grass) / Water (marine notes)
